Free – Mascara tips

Mascaras these days are loaded with proteins & waxes all designed to condition your lashes & come in problem-solving formulations. InStyle’s beauty book, Getting Gorgeous, breaks down these different types of mascaras. Here goes:Lengthening mascara: It’s touted as a lengthening mascara & beauty editors swear by it. Lengthening mascaras have dense bristles that allow you to get more mascara on your lashes & especially on the tips of your lashes.

Thickening mascara: When you want bulk, you do want to buy the mascaras touted as ‘thickening.’ These products contain a thicker formula of waxes & silicone polymers that coat lashes & make them appear bulkier.

Waterproof mascara: Obviously these ‘non-smudging’ mascaras contain special synthetic formulas meant to repel moisture. But these can be harsh on your lashes (to prevent breaking lashes, you can put Vaseline on them before you go to sleep).

Non-clumping mascara These contain ingredients like silk extract & glycerin. The applicators also have longer wands which allow for a more even application.

Free – Blusher and bronzer tips

Invest in a proper blusher brush. The teeny ones you find in compacts just aren’t up to the job, and will give visible brush strokes. Also ‘double-blush’, first applying one layer of blush, then powder, then blushing again. ‘It helps the colour stay put.’

Use a pressed powder bronzer for a lightly-toasted look. Wet the powder bronzer and it transforms into a sheer cream that glides on to add intense colour to eyes, lips, and face. For a sun-kissed sheen, dab a small bit of bronzer powder on your forehead, chin and nose (the places the sun naturally tans). Make sure it doesn’t look like a stripe. You can also apply a bronzer to your shoulders and neckline to warm up your skin and enhance a tan. Bronzers are perfect for year-round sun-kissed radiance. Some bronzers have a herbal or floral scent and a light sunscreen.

Free – 10 Top lipstick tips

1. Fuller Lips – To make your lips appear fuller, use a deep shade of lipcolour at the outside corners of lips. Then apply a lighter lipcolour (in similar shade) to the center of the lips. Remember that light brings forward, dark recedes.

2. Dont use tester lipsticks – Very unhygienic who knows whos used them before you?

3. Dry Lips – Before applying lipstick, try using a lip exfoliator that has moisturizers in it. Avoid matte lipsticks and instead choose a sheer, tinted lipstick or shimmery gloss. This fresh look will stay on longer and keep lips hydrated.

4. Plump Up Your Pout! – Create plump, luscious, pouty and sexy lips without plastic surgery. Line outer part of lips with natural colour lipliner, then blend inward with a lipbrush. Follow with a shimmery gloss and don’t rub lips together as this will only reduce shine.

5. How to Choose The Right Lipstick – Think about texture and colour when choosing lipstick. A single shade can look very different in different textures. Matte means dense colour, no shine, little if any moisture. Cream delivers strong color with moisture. Gloss is translucent colour, moist and shiny. Stain looks very dark in the tube but goes on sheer. Frosted colours contain sparkly white and are generally more suited to youthful complexions.

6. Making Lips Appear Fuller – You can make your lips look fuller by using a lip liner and placing it at the outer edge of your lips. Pick a liner that is close to your lip color. Blend the liner to the center of your lip to avoid a harsh edge. Follow up with a favorite lipstick in a colour slightly lighter or the same shade as the lipliner and add gloss to finish with a pout!

7. Making large lips look smaller – To make your lips look smaller, line the inner part of your lip with a neutral colour. Use darker, matte colors to make lips appear smaller. Do not use lip gloss or colors with shimmer in them.

8. Lipstick Application – A lip brush is the best tool to apply lipstick as you can fill in your lips after using a lip liner pencil. Apply lipstick, blot with a tissue, and reapply. Lipstick colour should stay on for hours except for the times you eat, drink, smoke or kiss.

9.  Keep Lipstick On – No matter what colour lipstick you choose ,apply lip liner to the outline and fill in your lips. You can then follow with a gloss or lipstick. When wearing a red lipstick, use a brown lipliner all over first as the red pigment will last longer.

10. Dont pay the high prices if you can get up to 80% off

Makeup for your lips

Lip gloss and lip shine comes in tubes and pots from companies such as Too Faced, Clinique and Urban Decay that are convenient to use and give a shimmer and shine to your lips that you have always wished for. They can last for long periods of time and can be water-resistant. They can be applied either over the lipstick or alone for a more natural and nude lip look. Lip-gloss helps to add more volume to your lips and make them look fuller and highlight them on the face. Thus, women with thick lips are generally advised to use it very sparingly. One can effectively make the lips look more beautiful with the help of lip gloss and other lip products and use it strategically for lip correction. A light film of Chapstick over lips not only protect them and heal them but also helps the lip color to set more effectively.

Similarly, dusting the lips with powder can make the lip color and gloss last longer and do not melt easily. In fact the best method to use lip color for long periods of time is to color your lips, blot off the extra color using the tissue paper, apply thin layer of powder on them, again apply a second coat of color and complete the process by applying lip gloss to make your ships look shinier than ever. While you can add the shine to your lips by applying gloss on them or above the lipstick, you can also tone down the shine by application of too much gloss, hold a single-ply tissue against your lips and press little loose powder through it. Only a bit of it will get sifted through it and will instantly reduce the shine. Lip lacquer gives a greater shine to your lips for stage shows and extremely glamorous look.

Lip-gloss directed to the center of the mouth makes your lips look fuller while you can avoid matte lipsticks from drying and flaking by using a lip primer or color fixative before applying it. Special effects and highlights can be achieved by using sheer silver, gold or iridescent lip gloss over lip color. For evening special effects, apply a sheer lip-gloss in silver, gold or an iridescent shade over the lip color. Vitamin E is good for lips to give them a natural glow while lip balm must be applied before applying lipstick to keep your lips moisturized, nourished and naturally rosy. It also prevents the lips from drying and developing of cracks. Lip gloss add the emphasis to the lips but smooth lips make it easier to glide on and lip gloss lasts longer on them. Even, if you are opting for a matte lip color; apply the lip balm before applying lipstick. Use creamy lipsticks for daily use to keep the lips moisturized and add an intense wet look with the help of lip gloss while transforming your makeup from daytime look to a night party look.
